MCCAC ‘s housing programs can help people who are literally homeless (termed “Rapid-Rehousing”) get off the street into permanent housing. We also have limited funds designed to assist people to prevent eviction (termed “Homeless Prevention”). In some cases, short-term (1 to 3 months) and, more rarely, medium-term (up to 12 months) rent assistance can be offered, accompanied by case management.
For qualifying Veterans, we have the Supportive Services for Veteran Families grant (SSVF). SSVF provides temporary financial assistance in the form of rent, utilities, and more, to low-income homeless or at-risk veterans, plus case management and advocacy.
In response to COVID-19 restrictions, we are practicing social distancing and have moved all correspondence related to housing needs to a “virtual” level, employing telephone, e-mail, fax and/or US Postal Service. People in literal homelessness (those camping; on the streets; in vehicles or RV’s) and lacking the necessary resources to get out of homelessness and into permanent housing, are being prioritized and will be assisted on a case by case basis using the above-mentioned social distancing tactics.
The Oregon governor issued a temporary moratorium on residential evictions beginning March 22 and extending through June 30, 2020. Because of this, and also due to current funding restrictions, MCCAC will not be doing any Homeless Prevention appointments until after June 30, 2020. We encourage anyone unable to pay current rent to save and/or pay as much as possible toward the rent. If, after the eviction moratorium is lifted, you are facing eviction for a past-due rent balance, please contact us and we will attempt to assist you with the minimum it will take to prevent you losing your rental.
